CONCEPTUAL GIG POSTER

For the “Gig Poster” project, I created a bold, expressive poster design for one of my favorite bands, The Used. The concept draws visual and thematic inspiration from multiple points in their discography, blending references from the album Toxic Positivity, the song Gravity’s Rainbow, and the emotionally charged album Heartwork. I aimed to capture the band’s raw, chaotic energy and lyrical intensity through layered textures, gritty typography, and a moody color palette. Each design element was intentionally chosen to reflect the band’s evolving sound and emotional depth, resulting in a poster that feels both nostalgic and current. This project allowed me to explore music-inspired visual storytelling while pushing my skills in layout, composition, and conceptual design.

On top of creating a digital poster, we were able to  print them out in our print lab and got the chance to display them in the art building. To print this we scanned our pieces in at over 600 dpi to give us the ability to scale our projects up to this huge poster size. It captured the texture of the paper, alcohol markers and liners I used to create this traditionally, but also gave me the space to add in digital aspects like the date, time and where this gig would be held. Doing the important text in Adobe Illustrator gave me the ability to make it legible but still match the overall theme of the poster and the band. This digital addition also allows it to be scaled up and down without losing the most important information in the compresssion of the file.
